چکیده

An efficient technique for drastically reducing the number of multipliers and adders in narrow-transition band linear-phase finite-impulse response filters is to use one-stage or multistage frequency-response masking (FRM) approaches as originally introduced by Lim. It has been observed recently that for the onestage FRM approach the filter complexity can be considerably reduced by iteratively optimizing the periodic filter and masking filters by properly sharing the frequency-response-shaping responsibilities in their respective frequency regions. In this paper, a similar iterative method is applied to the two-stage FRM structure to reduce the filter complexity even more. An example taken from the literature is included illustrating that the number of adders and multipliers for the resulting filters are less than 75 percent compared with the original designs.

Optimization Of Frequency-Response Masking Based Fir Filters

A very efficient technique to drastically reduce the number of multipliers and adders in implementing linear-phase finite-impulse response (FIR) digital filters in applications demanding a narrow transition band is to use the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach originally introduced by Lim. The arithmetic complexity can be even further reduced using a common filter part for constructing t...

Optimization of frequency-response-masking based FIR filters with reduced complexity

Recently, it has been observed that the complexity of finite-impulseresponse (FIR) filters using the frequency-response masking technique can be significantly reduced by simultaneously optimizing all the subfilters. In order to reduce the filter complexity even further, this paper considers the optimization a class of FIR filters based on the use of the generalized frequency-response masking ap...

Extrapolated impulse response filter and its application in the synthesis of digital filters using the frequency-response masking technique

Techniques based on the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach are known to be highly effective for reducing the number of multipliers and adders in linear-phase finite-impulse response (FIR) filters. The basic FRM structure comprises a band-edge shaping filter and two masking filters. It is observed that the impulse response of the band-edge shaping filter of an FRM structure exhibits a qua...

A neural network approach to FIR filter design using frequency-response masking technique

This paper presents a new optimization method for the design of various frequencyresponse-masking (FRM)-based linear-phase finite-impulse response (FIR) digital filters. The method is based on a batch back-propagation neural network algorithm (NNA), which is taken as a variable learning rate mode. In order to reduce the complexity, the following two-step optimization technique is proposed. At t...

FRM based FIR filter design - the WLS approach

Frequency-response masking (FRM) technique produces a filter network which comprises several sub-filters with very sparse coefficient values. If the sub-filters are optimized seperately, the overall filter network will be suboptimal. In this paper, an unconstrained weighted least squares algorithm for simultaneously optimizing the sub-filters generated by the frequency-response masking techniqu...
